Oh man. Little Benny. He is so innocent, and thank goodness i was able to give him our little lesson in the privacy of our Acura.
Mommy: How was your class? Did you meet your new friends?
Benny: Guess what mom!? I really like that girl in the pink. She is mine.
Mommy: {laughs} yeah? What about your other friends?
Benny: My other friends are yucky. They aren't supposed to be in my class.
Mommy: {thinking- oh boy} Yucky? Why are they yucky?
Benny: They are just yucky and they should not be in my class.
Mommy: Do you say that they are "yucky" because they have darker skin than you?
Benny: Yeah!!
Mommy: Oh honey- Your friends aren't "yucky". They just have a different color of skin as you. See moms? Your skin is even a different color than mine-
Everett: Benny. That is your friends' school too. They can't help it that they have to go to school with you. There are just two kinds of colors in this world. Black or white.
Mommy: Well- there are brown too. And it's okay because it doesn't make them "yucky" they are your friends no matter what color they have.
Benny: Oh. Okay.

Humm that is a cute story.
I think we have the same acura looks an awful lot like mine :)
What a silly boy! It's amazing what their little minds think up!
Wise little children.
It's so interesting what kids say when they start noticing things like skin color. And yes, it's always good when you're able to have those conversations in the privacy of a car. ;-)
Oh my gosh, I'm so glad you posted this! I LOVE reading everybody's posts about what their children said that day. Benny is so stinkin cute!
